Following are a set of P2 options you may wish to implement. No option is perfect for everyone, but sometimes options that have worked at one facility can work at yours. They might also serve as inspiration.

Reviewed Chemical - Blending Options

Options below have reviewed by pollution prevention specialists. They are commonly recommended and implemented for facilities.

 
Drain lines of Blended Chemicals
Chemicals are blended in a blend tank to produce an intermediate product. Line from blend tank is pumped into a tote. Blend tank is spray-rinsed with water to remove remaining product, which is then pumped to the tote, leaving the blend tank clean.

Ensure total enclosure
Keep all doors to the mix room closed during the mixing process to ensure total enclosure, and allow 100% vapor capture efficiency.
 
Recycle Corrogate Boxes
Implement a plan to recycle all corrigated boxes from facility rather than placing boxes land fill.

Recycle raw material drums
Purchase material in bulk where possible.
 
Follow Waste Minimization Procedutres
Following ChemTreat EMS Procedures EMS-207 and EMS-208 for blending process waste minimization.
 
Accurate SOP execution/Maintain PM Schedules
Follow written instructions to make the chemical blend to stated specifications consistently. Maintain preventive maintenance program for the solvent adhesive equipment to function properly.
 
Draining of Raw Material Drums
Blending technicians are trained to thoroughly drain raw material drums.
 
Raw material substitution
Substitution of non-TRI chemicals
