Unreviewed Options for Empty Drum Management
Following are a list of options that have been submitted by users of the pollution prevention planner. They have not been reviewed by pollution prevention specialists.
These options are presented so you can see what people in facilities are considering. As with any option (reviewed or unreviewed) you will have to adapt it to your facility. |

Drum to re-cyclable totes conversions |
convert drumed raw materials over to re-cyclable totes where possible in order to reduce RCRA empty crushed drum waste |

Retraining of drivers who pickup empty containers on the No Heels Policy. Inspection by management of empty drum contents. |

Outsourcing of Drum Cleaning |
Have drums cleaned by outside drum cleaning business |

Off-Site Empty Drum Recycle |
Drums are cleaned on-site and then sent to an off-site vendor for recycle/reuse. |

Reduce the number of Empty Drums |
Set up Vendors to offer the product in reuseable containers and larger quantity totes. |

Drum Re-Use |
Re-use empty drums by filling the drums with waste, provided that the waste is compatible with the product originally in the drum |
