Description:
Red River Army Depot needed a way to manage our waste disposal cost, cradle to grave tracking of solid and hazardous waste along with non-conformance issues associated with marking/labeling of materials and waste in storage.
P2 Application:
Implementation of a software program called the Hazardous Material Management System (HMMS) incorporated business process improvements which provided a wide range of visibility and control to reduce and manage the procurement of materials to eliminate excess purchases. This in turn reduced waste disposal cost and ensured total compliance with regulations governing generation and collection of solid and hazardous waste.
- Comments: Savings on hazardous materials $10,000-$100,000/year, savings on solid & hazardous waste $50,000-$100,000/year
Details of Reductions
Additional Information :
Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is a Government installation with an industrial complex for the overhaul and rebuild of military vehicles in support of military operations. Implementation of a software program, Hazardous Materials Management System (HMMS) has allowed us to visibly identify excess hazardous materials (hazmat) purchases and waste increases. The software also provides standardized electronic marking/labeling of all hazmat and waste containers, which conform to collection and storage laws and regulations. Large volumes of product purchases and generation of solid and hazardous waste annually creates many opportunities for non-conformance at any one time. The HMMS software program eliminates non-conformance up-front and reduces procurement costs which also reduce waste disposal cost.
