Description:

In 2006, an employee raised a concern about the health hazards and pollution issues related with Styrofoam. We found that we had purchased 32,000 Styrofoam cups in 2006 at a purchase cost of $1,960. We implemented a program beginning 2007 stating that if our employees wanted to drink beverages we provided, they had to provide their own container and be responsible for them.

P2 Application:

We stopped providing Styrofoam cups. We reviewed our purchasing history to determine the quantity of cups used previously.

  • Total Cost Savings: $1,960.00

Details of Reductions

  • 32,000.0 - item of   Styrofoam cups

Additional Information :

We reduced our general trash and landfill costs. Most beneficial was the elimination of Styrofoam cups left setting around the facility with varying amounts of coffee or other beverages in them.
