Description:
Monsanto installed floating roofs and double mechanical seals in it's storage facility to reduce fugitive emissions. In total six tanks had floating roofs installed. Typically these tanks store compounds such as Acrylonitrile and Benzene.
Environmental Benefits:
Monsanto reduced fugitive emissions by approximately 70,000 pounds of VOCs a year by installation of floating roofs and double mechanical seals.

Additional Information :
The reduced emission corresponds to reduce losses of product and raw material. The project was undertaken to reduce fugitive emissions and protect the environment, and not for economic payback. The total costs to Monsanto was about $200,000
