Description:

UTSA avoided the generation of 4260 lbs of universal paint waste through two programs. One program allows the university to  donate excess paints to the city of San Antonio. The other program works with the campus surplus department to auction off unused paints and primers. The paint would have been managed as universal waste and disposed.

P2 Application:

A new policy on purchasing paints was also established. This policy says that only the amount needed for project is to be purchased. No inventory will be kept on hand. A paint code will be used to reorder more paint if needed. A more accurate paint purchase tool is used to estimate the amount needed for a specific painting job based on square footage of the room to be painted. The new system reduced paint waste by about 70%.

  • Total Cost Savings: $3,715.00
