Description:
In the heart of our olefin cracking plant is a critical heat exchanger that, over time becomes fouled by the build up of oil. The exchanger had to be washed clean with a chemical solvent, and the oil laden solvent was drained and sent to the incinerator.
P2 Application:
The plant personnel realized that the solvent was a chemical component of one of the products sold commercially from the cracking plants. The oil laden solvent was pumped back into the cracking plant and the solvent was recovered.
Environmental Benefits:
Approximately 2,000 pounds a year of oil and solvent are no longer incinerated.
Details of Reductions
Additional Information :
The reduced solvent savings amounts to $3,200 a year, and incineration costs of $1,700 per year have been eliminated.
