Description:

Replace chemicals used in cooling system with non-regulated, less-expensive chemical. Initially changed from Phosphoric Acid to Chlorine Dioxide. Replaced Chlorine Dioxide with Sulfuric Acid in liquid form.

  • Comments: The cost difference between Chlorine Dioxide and Sulfuric Acid was significant with Chlorine Dioxide selling for $15.00 per gallon while Sulfuric Acid is $.99 per gallon.
The Sulfuric Acid also requires less monitoring to maintain the pH level of the water, which resulted in a labor savings.

Details of Reductions

  • Chlorine Dioxide

Additional Information :

Since the acid is injected directly into the system there is no atomization and it remains in a liquid state. Therefore, it is not regulated under SARA 313.
