Following are a set of P2 options you may wish to implement. No option is perfect for everyone, but sometimes options that have worked at one facility can work at yours. They might also serve as inspiration.

Reviewed Ammonia Refrigeration Options

Options below have reviewed by pollution prevention specialists. They are commonly recommended and implemented for facilities.

Purchase Chemicals in Small, Preweighed, Sealed Po
The sealed bags are mixed directly into the Banbury mixer and become part of the rubber matrix. These can be substituted for manually weighing, packaging and loading chemicals into the rubber mixer. These measures will results in a reduction of particulate emissions.

Unreviewed Ammonia Refrigeration Options

Options below have not been reviewed by pollution prevention specialists. They are commonly recommended and implemented for facilities.

Improved Maintenance
System is covered under PSM. Improved system maintenance can reduce leakage and purger losses.

UP-GRADE
ADDING EVAP CONDENSOR TO REDUCE PRESSURE OF SYSTEM FROM 210 PSI TO 180 PSI

continued monitoring and operation under current
continue to monitor and maintain refrigeration under PSM program. Ammonia refrigeration has not been purchased in two years therefore program is sound.

PSM Isolated Ammonia Refrigeration Upgrades
An active Process Safety Management Program will serve to identify losses of ammonia to the atmosphere from the refrigeration systems.

Improve Maintenance and Operation
The system is covered under PSM. Improved maintenance and operating procedures will help reduce releases through relief valves and the auto purger.

Upgrade Refrigeration Equipment
Continuous upgrade to the refrigeration equipment allows the system to operate more efficiently and at a lower pressure. This will help reduce the chance of a release.
